Chirije is one of the most interesting archaeological places on the Ecuadorian coast because of the historical, cultural, and ancestral aspects and also by their surrounding characterized by their beach landscape. The sun and tropical dry forest make this place a favorite place for both archaeological and eco tourism.
The place allows one to observe archaeological excavations and a great collection of pre-Colombian treasures in the museum that are found in the place. According to investigations and publications, Chirije was an old center of distribution for the exchange of ornaments and seashells among Mexico and Chile, and by precious metals such as gold and copper.
In Chirije there is a in situ museum exhibit with a collection of pre-colombian treasures. Also in the museum one will find archaeological pieces mysterious perforated stones, and archaeological artifacts of several Ecuadorian ancestral cultures.
Around Chirije there are 238 hectares of dry tropical forest and kilometers of clean and exclusive beaches. A great variety of birds can be watched, part of them are species native of Tumbesina, a region bound with the coast of Equator and Peru, frequently there are pacific hornero, the parakeet of the Pacific, the batará collarejo, valdivias, mosquero of Baird, reptiles, ground oropendolas caracoles, stick insects, and mariposas of million different colors!. There are two classes of the ceibo tree, the Ceiba pentandra and Ceiba trichisitandra, and algarrobo, holy stick, guayacán, realillo, muyuyo, sebastián, bototillo, cascol, moral fine, drought, tree cook, cáctus candelabro, guzmanias, orquideas, bromelias, oncidius, laurel, and fosforillo a very typical species in the dry forest.
