SIMBOCAL ROUTE
|
Roseate spoonbill |
This is a route for birdwatching lovers! It is located 20 km from Bahia de Caraquez near a community called Simbocal. There are dugout canoes that will take you to visit one of the l0 ast lung of the estuary that is the habitat for dozens of different varieties of birds.
We will go to the community of Simbocal in our own transportation, using the ferry (known locally as gabarra) to go San Vicente and after this to Simbocal where a local guide will be waiting for ecotourists to take them in dugout canoe where we begin a circuit to bird watching in the mangrove forest and in the mud.
Brown pelicans can be watched during the route in the different places of rest in the mangroves of the area. Neotropical cormorants can be watched, two species of kingfishers will be observed in their fishing activities, some species of egrets are found in this place, the white egret, the snowy egret, the tricolor heron, cocoi herons, the yellow crown night heron and the black crown nigh heron.
An attractive species to watch is the white ibis, that has a bill with a very curious shape. Some of migratory birds can be watched depending on the season but the most common is the osprey that could be watched trapping fishes grazing in water.
The most wonderful part of the tour is to watch the roseate spoonbill, one of the most colorful species of birds. This bird is considered a species in danger of extinction because the population of this bird in the estuary is only about 10 individuals. Between the mangroves is easy to watch green iguanas that are found in places where the sun comes out.
